What are some subjects to start a conversation with?

Me and my boyfriend have been dating for a month now. We are a really good couple. But he was talking to one of my friends and he said to her that when we are texting there isnt really anything to talk about. So I want to know some subjects to randomly talk about when things start to get quiet and ackward.
